Unknown brass object.

Hi All, I am new to this forum. I found this brass object it Resaca,Ga while detecting for civil war relics. We have found numerous relics and bullets all around where this item was found. The length of the object is around 3 inches and the width at the widest point is almost 1 inch and 3/4. I was thinking maybe some kind of sword belt hanger, but really don't know for sure. Any suggestions and opinions would be greaty appreciated. thanks Jonathon T
