Re: unknown buttons

Well, one of them does look like a livery... the quality is good, with crisp detail.

The other, well, it looks like a thin stamped sheet metal button that has been pushed in/dented. Hard for me to call that anything but blazer. :dontknow:

Better pics of the backs would really help.

I'd give you the thin sheet metal one  but there's to many buttons that are posted here, that simply get labeled common blazer button :protest:

Re: unknown buttons

Well it doesn't make it right, but it follows the pattern...

older = fewer people who had less stuff

newer = many more people who have tons of stuff

So, statistically, most button finds will be recent. So, if it looks like a modern button, it gets classed as modern.

The more info, the better the pics, the more people that look at it, the better the ID. A cooperative effort. ;D

Bottom line is the best ID possible. It's all about the artifacts. :hello2:

Doesn't make much difference to me because I find lots of buttons, and regard them as a bit of a nuisance :-\ 28 in 20 minutes was my record before I left the field :-\ but I know the guys over there appreciate them a lot more, new people coming to the hobby would want the right ID for a button, especially from the Us, simply labeling them Blazer Buttons is just not good enough. I know you work hard with your IDs :notworthy: and I can't recall you doing this, so it would be you these new folks would look to, along with the outher regulars of the Whatsits Thread :icon_thumleft:

Well, I see a lot of head banging SS and I apologize for not posting any supporting pics or links. That's not like me. Maybe I got lazy :dontknow: or maybe its because we have been here many times before.

Its a lot of work searching thru thousands upon thousands of blazer variations but those that read my posts know I am never afraid of some hard research. I never said they were modern, but these designs are still used today. They have all the elements- rusted back, lions rampant, shield, crown, crest, ribbon, etc. Blazer buttons are very often made in a Livery or Navy motif but that doesn't make them Livery.

I took a lot of time posting, lost it all once, had to retype and research everything.. I even used spell check to prevent any unnecessary editing. I know that bothers some members. I hope this helps explain it. :)

The first button may have a sword. This is not an exact match but I feel its close enough. http://www.waterburybutton.com/cart/pc/viewPrd.asp?idcategory=0&idproduct=29562
The second button is actually a variation the Belgium Crest. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coat_of_arms_of_Belgium
Both are civilian fashion blazer buttons I am 99.99% sure.

Yea I know. I cant help myself and I peek sometimes.

I apologize for past misunderstandings. :-[ I guess Im just over passionate about the What Is It forum. But life is too short for arguments. I need to learn to get along because TN is a group effort.

I know what you are saying. Its a thin line between Navy and Navy blazer. Or Livery and blazer (with Livery design). Some blazers are exactly like a Livery.
Some mistakes have occured in the past on calling it a blazer too fast but I recognized these designs. I have seen them before.

Hears an example of a fashion blazer/career uniform button that looks like a Livery.

I was not getting at you personely :) it was the general remark we get on a lot of posts, this doesn't help the poster. The links you posted are very good :icon_thumleft: and if is was my thread I would be very pleased with the imformation you have posted :notworthy: way better than just Blazer Button :icon_thumleft:

Yes...but that's new, the one shown above is dug...and that's why we can't just assign it to Blazer Button :) when infact it could be the real deal :icon_thumleft:

Re: unknown buttons

I dont dig many Roman coins and Celtic rings in South Florida so I have become a professional on blazer buttons. :'( I agree supporting pics and links are necessary. Especially with new members looking for authentication.

Re: unknown buttons

Actually that career crest button looks like a 2-piece front.

Celts and shipwrecks... all I dig up is bits of farm junque and busted butter crocks.
