Earthworks:
Other ways to ID the coin would include its weight (in grams) and diameter (in mm). Can you share that info? The first 'large cents' (1793-1796) were of 13.48 g and 26-27 mm; those that immediately followed were of 10.89 g and about 29 mm in dia.

Earthworks:
You note 3.5 grams; that's between a penny and nickel. A 'thick' coin the size of a 'large penny' should weight just about 10 grams heavier. Is there a '1' missing in front of your '3.5'?

Earthworks:
The earlier penny weight about 24% more than the common 'large' penny. This may be the reason your coin is 'thicker'. Some earlier pennies had either vines and bars on the edge or the lettering 'one hundred for a dollar". Anything vis. on yours?

The "C" is obviously a counterstamp of some sort. Wasn't minted that way. Maybe a scan when its wet woukld show more?????

If you rotate the coin so that the counterstamp is in the 9 o'clock position, I can imagine seeing a small 'c' in the 11:45 position; as in ameriCa??

i remember seeing a quarter (modern) in my change that had a similar "c" stamped into it. someone on here explained it but for the life of me i cant remember what they said! whatever it was it was stamped after the coin was minted. hopefully whoever provided the answer back then will see this thread.
