Unknown German Made Heraldic Crest Silver Button, 1800's? Military?

I found this button in a large box of vintage military buttons at a garage sale. Some of the other buttons date to the 1870's. The manufacturer is German, and was very well known for making WWII German military badges. I believe this button dates to mid to late 1800's. Does anyone know what the crest on the button is for? Is it military? The button is 1 1/8" in diameter, and very well made. The back is marked Assmann & Sohne Ludenscheid. Any help is appreciated.

A proctologist made buttons? Who would have thunk it. I think Shone & Ludenschneid should have had a different partner. Maybe it is a name with a long heritage, but..............Almost as bad as they guy that was the White House Spokesman a few years back: Lippschitz.

When spouting White House (or ANY political) rhetoric it's understandable that some will get on your lip.
