Found this item in a Victorian period bottle dump. Its aluminum or tin(i think aluminum), I was thinking hienz 57 Varieties ketchup?

It looks like a needle threader. When whole they have a small piece of rigid wire like metal down at the narrow tip that flexes. You stick the thread on it then push it through the eye of the needle:

The round part should be about dime size.

I asked my mom, as she used to sew alot, and she seems to think so too, but it has jagged edges like a pulltab...

I've seen some bottles where you'd unscrew the cap and then have to rip something similar to that off. Kind of an early "tamper-proof" system.
