Got out for a couple hours this morning. Went to the same area I found the half real in the beginning of the year. I dug this large copper and have no idea what it is. very exciting!
It is bigger than a US large cent. I thought it was totally smooth until I got it home. I rinsed it off and gave it a light brushing. I looks as if I can see the letters ALG and E on it. Hope you can see it too in the photo. Still trying to research, but if anyone can id please let me know.

Thanks for looking and happy hunting!

That's a large copper. Not too many got that BIG. Perhaps a Russian Kopek?

Good suggestion. My buddy found one a few years back. I will check with him. Thanks!

Looks a lot like Portugal 10 Reis late 1700s Josephus I 36mm lower left corner DEI GRATIA portion

Another coin that turns up once on a blue moon!
I like the out of the ordinary finds, keeps the detecting and identifying fun!

Your coin is a prime candidate for peroxide cleaning method, you'll get to see a lot more details after a bath

Thank you. Picked up peroxide after getting kids from school. Just started the bath

Agreed. Portuguese 10 Reis..... found one myself last year...in MA.

Not finished cleaning, but thinking older than I thought

After learning that this was a 10 Ries from fellow tnetters, I started the cleaning. Looks as if I may have a 10 Reis from 1712-1721. Still needs more cleaning but wanted to post updated pics. Thoughts? Very excited. Maybe my oldest coin yet.... Thanks for your help!
