My wife found this while we were out and about last weekend. Unsure as to what it is, if anyone has any idea it would be appreciated.

The shaft is similar to that of a leather stitching awl, with a channel in it to allow the (usually waxed nylon) thread to pass through...but I can't find one that explains the rear portion.
Perhaps a specialty tip for jarts (remember those?), the groove in this would ensure that your opponent bled out. :tongue3:

Looks like a dart point, but a little large, so perhaps a lawn dart???

The tip off a litter-picker pole.

Alternate guess - the tip off an ice fishing pole.

It looks as though it would fit into a pipe, the back part that is so maybe the bottom of a pole for an older tent military style maybe or an older beach umbrella.:dontknow:just an idea.

It looks like a finial for an wrought iron fence of gate- looks like it would drop into a pipe and stop at the ridge (at the widest most part of the domed base) 2nd pic showing point up. Lightning rod tip maybe? Neat find ...

Hello molossus,

Welcome to this place, and thanks for showing us your find. Is it threaded, or slotted on the round end? What metal is it?

I'm thinking lightning rod tip.

I'm sure that what it is. My grandpa took care of a park many years ago and I'd go along with him as he speared scraps of paper with a stick and that point on the end of it. Heck I wanted a job doing that when I grew up as it seemed like good honest work. You don't see people doing that anymore in a park.

I like litter picking spear tip. Like yelnif said it looks like it is meant to fit inside of a pole up to the dome spear point. If it was lightning rod related I think it would be made of copper. Question.. is it magnetic?

Another possibility is tip of a leg for a tripod for an old camera or surveyor.

It appears to be iron, so don't think it is a lightning rod point. I agree that the bottom looks like it was meant to fit into a pipe. They still make plastic items like that to fit inside a pipe.
