I found this yesterday at the place I dug all those civil war buttons and other relics.its got threaded brass rod coming out both ends and the middle appears to be pewter or some other kind of metal,its a little tougher than lead,but heavy like lead.thanks for looking

I think it may be a zinc anode.used to slow corrosion in under surface marine applications and general anti corrosion.they are still in wide use toda.every shape imaginable,but always replacable.anode 1.webpanode 2.webp

It was found in North Georgia in the woods where I've been finding civil war relics. if that helps any
