unknown rock [to me]

Can ya'll tell me what this is? Found in the backwoods of North Carolina piedmont region. My whites goldmaster 4/b sounds off like crazy on it but isn't registering iron. It's not magnetic, does a faint streak of black on porceilen. It's real light weight like pumice. I found a smaller one and broke it up, It's all black and ashy feeling when ground up, almost like charcoal.

Bituminous coal possibly? (aka Black coal)
What streak colour does it leave?
Magnetic?
Scratch-able with knife?

coke? (the fuel kind) or maybe coked coal from a blacksmith's forge? Metalurgical coke is light, and crumbles, what does it smell like?

No odor at all. It takes a hammer to break it. A tree uprooted along the creek and this was under the root mass. Not sure of any blacksmithing around. Although I wouldn't be suprised, I find bits of trash and metal miles from anywhere so you never know. It's a hotrock just wondering the geneoligy name of it. I know its hard to identify over the internet.
