Unusual find

Saw the cats staring at something from the elevated deck. This snapping turtle sow decided to lay eggs in our yard. She has a hole dug out and is at work. I hope the raccoons don’t dig them up. I’m a big fan of snapping turtles. I’d love to see a bunch of hatchlings in a few weeks (80-90 days).
Might be the wrong forum, but this is my best find of the week!

Throw a sheet of plywood over the area for a week. Might allow the dirt to settle so raccoons don’t dig it up. Stupid trash pandas.

I've seen them old wire milk crates weighted over turtle nests before too.
(Gaps are bigger than the newer plastic ones.)
