Unusual heavy black rock with nickel specs.

I had picked up a couple boxes of geodes, petrified wood and on very heavy dark stone. I had thought it was iron but when I touch the magnet to it, it will not stick to it, When I dangle a small magnet near it, it slowly moves towards the rock. It is very hard and a file barely does aything to it. It has lots of shiny specs that looks to be iron or nickel. One of the pieces of wood is in the last picture. Looking for some of the rock guys here. Thanks for your help. Bill

Are you near an Iron mine - looks like iron oxide - Hematite. They have unusual magnetic properties.
