Hi everyone. I dug this out of a farm field where a house dating back to the 1700's was located.
Because of its unusual shape and the different "features" on it I think it was something - and not just a random hunk of iron - once upon a time.

But does anyone have any idea as to what this was?
The things that are interesting to me:
- it seems to have a lot of concretion around it (is it "concretion" if it's just rust built up over decades in dirt? or does concretion only come from being in salt water?)
- I think the build-up is thick because of the 3rd picture and the last picture. Look at that "post" sticking out; can you see all the corrosion around it?
- the four posts sticking out (two top, two middle) have me confused
- the two notches what I think is the bottom make it look like something slid into it, maybe a post?

Anyway, I hope someone recognizes this, because it seems interesting to me.

Oh that’s definitely what it looks like, now that you taught me that something called a harrow spike existed. I’ve never heard of that before - thanks!

I notice some one on esty site selling these sickle bar rock guards as harrow spikes , google image them both as you're sure to dig more at some point.
