Unusual Quarter

I'm new to coins and I found this one in my change today. Any ideas? Here's what I noticed:

I noticed that the "E", "R", and "L" in LIBERTY may be doubled, but is that possible?

Also, the mint mark (P, I think) looks like it is in a divot.

Of course, the right edge is obviously off and the whole face is off-center.

Does the "9" in 1981 appear short?

Finally, is this common? I think it's rather cool, except for the condition of the coin.

Yeah, it looks like it was double stamped. But don't take my word for it! :)
 

google 1981-p error quarters or of the sort........there is a coin error magazine also i have a copy very good info on current values etc...
 

Looks to me like a double stamp, the rim is really obvious! HH and neat find, Mike
