Up to snuff?

Dug this little box the other day under some pretty nasty tree roots. What could it be? Looks to be made of a crusty type metal like tin and is pretty heavy duty. Thought maybe it was a snuff box. It's a little bigger than a quarter in diameter.

could be a snuff tin, but the first thing that I thought of was an aspirin tin

All the aspirin tins I looked at were more square not rounded corners like yours also not as deep.I think you are on point with snuff box.
