I have not posted any digs in a couple of weeks .I have been hunting when I can and have dug some coins and buttons but nothing really that great until this morning. The ring is a female class ring(10K) from 1964 . It was found in a little town called Mohall that does have a small high school. When I got home I got on the net and did a search for the class of 64 and came up with nothing in Mohall but I did come up with a hit from Minot class of 64 . The initials on the ring are A.L. and I found a lady in Minot with both her married name and her madden name started with an L. I called her on the phone and she said that she did graduate from Minot high in 1964 and did lose her ring many years ago but when I told her where I found it she just said that she has no clue where she lost it. She sounded very skeptical and in the world of scam artist you can't blame people for that. I am going to met up with her tomorrow and see if it is her ring. If she seems like she don't recognize it of course I am not going to let her have it .It was forty plus years ago so I can under stand the memory thing if it is hers she should recognize it . I also found some wheat pennies a couple of IHs some buttons ,nickles and a Vnickle that is badly worn (1888). Hope this works out with the ring . The lady works for Minot State University and from the net search looks like she is the pillar of the community so I hope she will be honest if the ring is not the one she lost. Wish me luck and HH. :)

Re: First class ring and I might have found the owner!!

Good luck, either way a happy ending; you keep it or she does.

Really a great bunch of coins and buttons you have there. Of course the ring, well that just tops the day off.
Hope it all works out on the ring.....

Nice finds :)

With the ring I would have her describe the ring before showing it to her to see if her description fits or not. She would surely know what the ring looked like that she lost, even 44 yrs later.

Good call Teddyb,I am going to ask her questions before I show it to her. I think when I called her she was thinking it may be a scam. She asked me if I wanted to mail it to her and I told her that I would give it to her in person.

Re: UPDATE ........... 1964 class ring and Found the owner!

This was to easy. I found the ring yesterday morning and got it back to the owner today at about 130. Before I showed her the ring I asked her some questions and she told me where her old family home was and described the old house perfectly down to the trees in the yard. I then showed her the ring and she slipped it on her finger and it fit perfectly after all these years. She said she lost it in the fall of 1964 and did not know where she lost it.She started to cry and was in disbelief. It is a good feeling and thanks to all the people on this site that have returned rings in the past because if it were not for you all I may have not even thought it possible to find the owner. Man ,I love this hobby!! ;D I took a couple of pics and will get them up as soon as I figure out how to retrieve them from the camera.I use the scanner mainly for posting stuff so this may take a few to get the pics and get them re sized.

Man!!!!!!!! That's great!!!!! I can only imagine how good it made her feel and not only that but the feeling you got from returning it.

Not only did you find the ring but you found the owner. Two finds in one.
Congratulations,
Ed

Only took two pics.

that is awesome! im glad it really turned out to be hers!

Great finds, Bird! Good deeds like this gives detectorists a good name. She looks very pleased to have her ring back & it still fits. Thanks, Bird. :-*

;) RR

sweeeeeeet !!!!! how did you track her down ??

Green1, I got on the net and typed in class of 1964 with the two towns that started with an M that are fairly close by and her name came up and matched the initials on the ring. She was on a class reunion comity at some point and that is where I saw her name. It was just luck mainly. She called me this afternoon and thanked me again and said that her mother lost her class ring back in the forty's and she knows the area where she lost it so I am going to look for that one in the next couple of weeks. She is going to get more details for me . Should be a good adventure.:)
