Its been my expeience with this cleaning method that it is much easier to mess up the V nickels.
If you overdo it the nickle will start to get an etched look very quickly.
The buffalos will do the same but it seems that you have a longer frame of time between clean and etched.

Put it in a dish (with a curved bottom, not flat).
Cover it in Lime A Way Gel.
Leave it in for a couple hours.
And brush it off with a stiff toothbrush until it gets to where I like it.
If I dont like it I put it back in and try again.
Keep it covered because the Lime A Way will evaporate.

hmm, ill have to write this down and try it out sometime. so 2 hours in the gel should do the trick before crossing the danger zone. I have about 5 crusty Vs, I like how your came out,
thanks for the info.

I have the lime away spray. Wonder if it will do the same thing. I have one of my old barely readable 1900 V nickels soaking in it now.

I think it depends on how bad they are.
This one wasnt in too bad of shape.
Just keep an eye on it.
And make sure you get all of the gel off when you are done!!!
I will use dish soap and a towel on it when it is done.
