the pitting can be masked by rubbing some olive oil on it, then, drying it off

Liberty is nice and clear...nice feathers.....nice coin!!!

I thought cleaning with baking soda was not good for the coin? I thought it immediately reduced the value. But I'm fairly new to coin collecting :)

Looks like your 1865 is a "fancy 5" type. Really nice coin and nice job tidying it up.

Unless it's a really rare and valuable coin, I find the general consensus on lightly cleaning DUG coins is that it's ok. I'm sure this cent looks much better now than it did before.

Can we see a pic of the cent before it was cleaned?

PEA THAT INJUN FACE IS SMOOTH AS A BABIES BUTT .

Nice find. Don't get mad but I liked it more before you cleaned it.

my post from today--"-former farm field....". shows the '65 IH after a water rinse only---it was living in sand for a while. green is good---no further cleaning--I love her acne and a bit woozy from seeing the sun. after the baking soda massage I spotted what appears to be a raised die crack and die chip on top left of shield. add a fancy 5 as a little bonus. Thanks for the pics, mighty fine IH cent there. I think it looks good in both the before AND after pictures haha!

The before and after does the trick. Ever learn to get that green off let me know! :tongue3:

That is a sweet coin great for a display case!! Good job cleaning it up!!!!

Is a sweet Indianhead penny, congrats and HH

Great looking IH coin Rich. I think it looks good in the before and after photos. Frank is not going to want to play with you anymore if you keep that up.

Great clean up! The die crack makes it even more appealing. Definitely a display piece, that one. Congrats!

showed her to my LCS today___he says---"you dug this?" and proceeds to tell me it has AU details---but then, I already knew that______the photos do not do this coin justice---deep dark emerald green patina is stunning
