For those who saw the amazing three seated dime spill found by Skunemonk (Jeff) and the Connecticut Copper (found at same site) -- first update is that Don in SJ tells us that particular Copper is a rare and valuable find (more info on that to follow I am sure as we need more details) -- here's an update from this past weekend. Jeff took me over to the site, my first trip there, and we spent most of the day there. It's an old home from the early 1800s with a large backyard overlooking a pond. Jeff picked up right where he left off last time -- he found three large cents (two 1822 and an 1826) -- congrats to him on the great finds. I got skunked as far as old coins, it could be my (duct taped together) Radio Shack (Bounty Hunter). I've found lots of great and old coins with it, but I'm sure it's not getting to the depths of the better detectors. Then again, it could have just been bad luck, but I believe the type of detector had something to do with it since we put the coins back in the holes and I did have some trouble hearing some of them. We'll get those three large cents over to Earthworks to photograph and get them posted in the next week or so, but figured I'd give everyone an update. Thanks again to Don in SJ. (Come to think of it, I did find a cool old medallion with crossed trumpets and flags that I'll have to post when photographed.)
