US marine corp pin??

I found this yesterday along with a bunch of buffalo nickels and wheat pennies.. I thought it was the top to a broken key so I threw it in my junk pocket. Well today I noticed it had some detail to it so I cleaned it with electrolysis and I believe I have a United States marine corps pin. Can anyone confirm that's what it is and maybe tell me what date it would have been used? I'm guess early 1900s because of the coins in the direct area. Thanks for any info!
