US Mint Proof sets

Buy the Coin(s); Not the Box. Original government packaging can always be bought on the secondary market.
 

Also, keep in mind prior price trends when it comes to US (non-silver) proof sets.

United States Proof Set Prices

Has a good chart comparing the price to their value today, although, in my experience the price that they show for "retail prices" is much higher than what the actual sets sell for in a coin shop/auction.
 

What do you think about breaking up proof sets? I've got a couple silver quarter sets but I really don't like the plastic box. I
I'm thinking about putting them in 2x2. Think they're worth more in the mint issued box?
One thing is stopping me, the box says SILVER. How does the untrained eye tell the difference between a Silver proof and a Clad proof coin?

The edge will be white. For proofs, I always want to keep them in the original box. However, I split up mint sets, unless they have extra value together. I like them in holders more.
