Tesoro Silver Umax, Tesoro Deleon, Whites MXT
Primary Interest:
Metal Detecting
I have a chance to get a Deleon for $250. Is there anything I should be aware of or check before I get it? Seems like a real good price, so I'm a little concerned there might be something wrong with it, and I've read that the warranty isn't transferable. I have a Silver Umax already, and like it a lot, but I'm ready for a TID, and a depth meter would be handy now since the ground is rock hard in my area, and I'm basically only digging targets I can pinpoint and pop with a screwdriver so as not to ruin the park turf.

HELP ME PLEASE AS I ONLY HAVE 3 DAYS TO DECIDE!!!

I say get it at that price. Tesoro has a great warranty repair policy and have repaired any owner's detectors for free.

thats a really good deal i've owned 7 of them and have alot of firsts with the deleon, but the only negative really the depth meter is way off so don't rely on that but the TID is really accurate but on coins reguardless of what it is it will always say 95, unless its nickels, which does'nt bother me unless its zinc pennies, then there a pain right now i got a cortes and really like the tones fairly accurate when using the sum mode

For $250.00, I would say pick it up!

I currently own 2 of them. If it says 95 it will probably be a coin, an 85 will probably be a zinc penny. Nickels I do not have quite figured out yet, but they are usually in the lower 40's.

Good luck with your new machine!

Well I got it! but for less. I guess the guy was prepared to haggle, and when I was happy to give him the $250, he only charged me $230. Then we had a great chat about the unit and places to hunt. Turns out he knew all about all the places I've ever hunted and which to avoid etc... He was a real seasoned pro, and owned many detectors. And the icing on the cake is that he is getting a 5 1/2 inch coil in a couple of weeks that he will no longer need and will part with it for $20!!!! I gave it a few dozen swings, and have to get used to actually looking at the detector for the TID display. I'm so used to sound only, it almost seems like a distraction. Anyways I'm looking forward to taking it to Newfoundland on Saturday and see what she finds. Thanks for the comments guys!

if your ground is not to terribly mineralized you will like it alot and does go deep and nickel #s by the way 36 to 44 and this is where gold rings will fall to, you will get the occasional pulltab which the old sayin is if your not diggin pulltabs you won't get the gold!

If you happen to be in the Fortune NL area pop in for a visit, I am a Tesoro fan, have made some neat finds since moving here.

I would ask you you what part of the country you are in. If you are on the western side of the United states, you wont like it, but if you are on the eastern side. Its a gold mine.

I'm back from NL, and just read your reply. I didn't get a chance to visit the south, and there was so much to see in the 2 weeks I was there, I didn't get too much metal detecting done. We are hoping to return in a few years to see some more of your outstanding province. I did get a chance to metal detect with a new friend in St. Johns, and we hunted an old park there, for a few hours before the rain kicked in. I'm still having trouble using the TID, but the audio works great and I'm hitting some deep targets. I'll have to set up a test garden in the backyard to figure the display out. Lifting the coil all the time and resweeping keeps giving me different depths and numbers, so I'm not sure how little of a sweep is necessary. :icon_scratch: I'm not giving up though. I'm sure its user error for the most part.
