I rescued this button and a lot of the silver war US Marine Corps look like it but it also looks like a World War II navy button?
It doesn’t have the back CannonballGuyYour find is definitely a US Marines button. If it has a backmark that's still read-able, tell us exactly what it says, and we might be able to come up with a time-range for you.
BTW, the first photo is absolutely NOT a civil war era button. None from that time had "Brown Finish." That's strictly a 20th-Century finish. VietNam era, I think, and perhaps later. It is similar to the "Black Finish" on World War One (and on up to 1922) US Army and Marines buttons.
Looks like it’s USMC! The navy button has anchor laying down and USMC at an angle!I rescued this button and a lot of the silver war US Marine Corps look like it but it also looks like a World War II navy button?
