v3i cannon ball help

Hey guys! My brother has a v3i. I found a civil war cannon ball the other day. He wanted to run his machine over it to see what it would read. He got nothing....just nulling and a blip every once and awhile. Hes on relic mode. He even set it with VERY low disc. Any suggestions or setting tips that i could give him? Thnx!

I would think its mostly iron or all iron, so have him turn the disc. all the way down so hes got no disc. and see what he gets. HH
