Delta, I remember that story, I saw it on a TV show about treasure. If I remember correctly, it was mounted to an old jeep. I believe he used a long pvc pipe to extend out in front of the vehicle and mounted the control box on the dash. I hope this helps.

This may be the same story...

There was a person that used to troll for nuggets in the desert near Palm Springs that had a truck (maybe jeep) mounted device and apparently was quite successful finding some large nugs (measured in lbs) that he sold to a dealer in San Diego area. I recall that I read about it a few years back...don't recall the source, though.
