So now Venezuela is apparently committing piracy but forcing commercial vessels into their ports where they obviously intend to hold them until the owning company pays the "fine" aka ransom to be released.

Today most ships have Automatic identification systems (AIS) that gives a navigational pinpoint as to GPS location good to about 50 feet and monitored by international agencies.

This means that the US could attack the Venezuelan Navy for act of aggression and piracy backed by the country the cruise ship was flagged by. (Bahamas)

That's got to hurt the ego, eh?
It would be interesting to see what happens to the Captain of the patrol boat and whoever in his chain of command that told him this would be a good idea.

Reminds me of an incident in 1987, when a Venezuelan Navy ship captured the Stena Mayo, outside the 12 mile limit.
