My daughter fund this last smmer while she was out on a hike with her grandmother. it was fuond in southern to cetral Illinois.
Anyone have any idea what this was when it was alive? apx. age? any information will be appreciated.
also, are fossills worth anything?

To identify this without a better photo is like seeing one of those grainy convenience store robbery videos and being asked to ID the person in a hat and sunglasses.... ;D I can think of a few things it might be, but...you need clear photos. :)
 
It, just guessing at the grainy photo, appears that you have as partial crinoid. Crinoids are echinoderms.......as are starfish, sea urchins, and sand dollars.
 
It looks like you might have the calyx, there. If so, it is a nice(and relatively rare) find. Try to get a better pic of the bulbous mass at the end.
