Hello T-Netters.....
Today I took a friend to go metal detecting at an old park in the center of a historic town, a stone's throw away from a gristmill that George Washington visited some time in the seventeen nineties. I was really hoping to find something good, because my friend was thinking of buying his own metal detector, but wanted to test the water a bit first. We dug up about five dollars in clad, and then switched our area of focus to a swampy area of wet soil, and after digging two more lincoln pennies, out popped the beauty seen below! My friend went wild - I did too actually! It's really quite amazing, one of my best finds ever for sure. I don't know much about cameos, but I would assume it to be 1880ish? Any information on it at all is appreciated. It's not marked with a manufacturer or gold karat, but I'm pretty sure it's gold and not plate or fill. It was in the hole next to a rusty nail which may have cause some of the coppery looking areas, but I don't know. I'm going to have it tested tomorrow. Even if it isn't gold the stone alone is beautiful, and it's an amazing part of the history of my town! The site we found it at is one of those "hunted out" sites that EVERYONE detects, so I was expecting the worst, but got the best! Or at least pretty darn close!
Thanks for looking, and happy hunting!
