Based on the photos I’d say it could be vintage ala 1970s. Maybe it’s the lighting, but it looks like a light weight modern version of a steamer trunk. Is it coated cardboard or possibly thin veneer? Not trying to insult, but that’s what I see.
 
That looks exactly like a trunk I had in college...circa 1972. So a modern trunk.
 
I myself do not think it is that old of a trunk

I think the trunk is pretty cool, now I need to fill it with treasure :)

Its definitely not paper, quite possibly a thin veneer or smth similar.
