thanks,

The Viper is one name pasted on the same Chinese made waterproof unit sold on ebay and via various dealers. It's the same detector but just different names.

I was very curious about it a while back and wrote to many who bought one off ebay. About a dozen replied to my PM and all said they really liked it. But, judging from their replies I think they were all rookie THers if you know what I mean?

My personal experience with other Chinese made units has been that most get very good depth but I don't care for the features that also matter a great deal such as target separation, warrentee, service, coil options, and a bunch more.

If you're going to get the Trident wait until it shows up on ebay (various names) and you can usually get it for well under $300 new. They were selling them a while back for about $200 as I recall.

I've learned that you generally get what you pay for. A warranty with a major brand is well worth it if something goes wrong. An you know if something can go wrong, it will. (Who said that anyway?)
The Trident is cheap enough that if you are starting out and living on a budget because of wife, kids, this will at least get you out of some chores around the house. Find her a gold ring, and soon she'll want you to upgrade.

thanks for the information, I will start hunting for a Detector Pro head hunter diver, or a Whites Beach Hunter ID, or the Tesoro Tiger Shark, If you know of any good deals, pass the info to me.

thanks,
richard
