This rock is 1 1/2" H x 2 1/2" L. Appears to have dull luster but sparkles when turned in hand. Seems like calcite or quartz? Cannot scratch surface with finger nail nor knife but will scratch my fingernail. Found near Hardy Virginia river. What is it? Please help me identify.

In IL we call that ferruginous quartz. The Indians in the late archaic period made banner stones from that type of rock. Beautiful and translucent. Gary
