Having trouble finding anything matching the Wade and Butcher knife any one every seen one before? came across it at an estate sale a few months ago
Good ID. I never understood the sinister aspect of switchblades.I can get my pocketknife out and in action just as fast as a switchblade, maybe faster as I don,t have to fumble for the button.Just a side comment.Wade and Butcher was a Sheffield England company. Yours with the letter B in a circle with Arrow and Cross on the tang would make that the English company. They also did business in Germany around 1968.
The Sheffield Co. existed between 1819-1974. If your knife also has a mark out on the blade with XCD, the knife would be from 1819-1890.
I believe your knife dates from late 40s to late 50s maybe early 60s. Unlike California many states do not totally outlaw them. Most areas have regulations concerning them but they are quite legal to own in many states. It's what you do with them that leads to trouble.
There,s few things that compare to using a sharp, well designed knife to perform a task. They can be works of art too.The info came from Pocketknives 2nd edition by Goins. I think I have some more info from another source that may be more detailed. I just have to find it. Many books! CRS prevents me from spouting off from the old gourd, but I made knives and repaired knives and customized a bunch. There is nothing about them that should be considered dangerous. They are a tool until other actions dictate alternate uses.
Thanks you so much for the reply! The information that you provided is appreciated! There,s few things that compare to using a sharp, well designed knife to perform a task. They can be works of art too.
