Walk-up or drive thru

Going inside is always the best option. Some larger banks are segmented, that is, they have a different set of tellers staffing the drive thru than the main lobby. Most tellers in the drive thru aren't going to stock a lot of coin and will most likely trade halves and dollar coins to the tellers working in the main lobby. Plus, when you go in, you have much more of an ability to judge coins and if it is a slow day, tellers are quite willing to sell you curiosities in their drawers like older bills and Ikes.

I usually always go to the commercial drive-thru now and ask the teller if any of the tellers have any halves or 'bdc's" unless the bank doesn't have a comm. drive-thru at the window then I go inside. The comm. teller is often the one with the halves anyway plus it's much more convenient and easier to get boxes (except halves of course) this way also.

I will usually go in because the rolled coin is too heavy for the tubes. The tellers won't even do it. There is one bank or two banks left in town that have the drive through drawer. I will ask for halves there if I am depositing at the drive thru. If I am strictly coin hunting I always go in. It allows schmoozing!

Walk up unless the lobby is closed, then I might consider drive thru if they have a drawer and even then I only do drive thru on a road trip.
