Went off again today to an old spot I've researched back to the 1800's. A newspaper article states there was over 3000 people attending a 4th of July picnic there in 1872. Seems there was a natural spring and was a very popular spot to go. Brett and I have checked it out before, but there was a foot of snow in places and we never did get into the area of the springs. It looks like it hasn't been used for 50 or more years and the lack of junk signals backs that up. I run very low discrimination on my machine and there were times I had to check if the DFX was still on, as it was verry quiet. It was during one of these quite times in the woods that I got a solid low tone. By low I mean much lower than a nickel. On a Whites, a nickel will read 18-20 and this tone was coming in at 9-10. The type of signal that I would normally ignor, lets say in a park, as a ball of foil would sound the same. So since there was not much else going on signal wise, I decided to look down and low and behold, this ring was sticking in the mud. 14k 3.4 gr--I can't wait to get back and find the actual old picnic spot. Did get a shallow '28 wheatie, so the place is definitely old.
