War and Wheat...

[Copperhead]

After seeing a few posts of old newspaper finds recently….It was ironic that while gutting a cottage today, we began running across old newspapers stuffed in the walls for insulation….The dates ranged from 1939 to 1941 and though the owner requested the ones in better condition…..and others crumbled to pieces when they were removed… I did manage to save a few for myself....here’s the front page of one - dated July 19, 1940 …needless to say… I was distracted through out the day, working in the present and reading stories from the past…In cleaning up at the end of the day....I was lucky to eyeball this wheatie among the debris, a 1924…..

Hey Ron

Nice paper... think though the headline probably did not happen... at least not in this reality... maybe in an alternate reality.

Thanks for sharing.

did you get a chance at all to look around the cottage for other stuff?

There is most likely a stash hidden away there.

I guess newspaper makes good insulation. While tearing out a wall in our bathroom, we found papers from the early 1920's.
