Had a question about nickels (42-45). Are they silver if there is NO mint mark? I have 2 D's, 2 P,s, and 2 with none. Someone told me if they have no mint mark, they're NOT silver! Anyone know for sure? Thanks
-Joe

no mint mark would be Philadelphia with normal nickle content. No Silver. Silver war nickles from Philadelphia had a large "P" on the reverse

Thanks, Bandit! Know anything about Denver? Large D?.....

What is the year? 1942 P and D were not all we but 42S is. If it's 1943 through 1945 it will have a mint mark on the reverse for either P,D, or S. If it is one of those years without a mint mark then it may be so worn the mint mark has worn off or it is a Henning. Search the web for Henning Nickel information especially if it's a 1944.

I know for sure... If it does not have a large mint mark on the back it is not silver...

On ALL silver War Nickels the mint mark is large and is found above Monticello.
