Back on the 19th of January, I was making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich (yep, and I'm 53) for my lunch when I found a large piece of rubber O-ring in the jar . . . well actually on my spoon. After removing it from the jar and contacting the manufacturer, I took this picture as per the request of Con Agra foods. I used a quarter for reference:

Well, they apologized and send us a couple of coupons for a different size jar. They did not issue a recall (of course EVERYONE loves a bit of rubber gasket with their PB & J sanwich at lunch) stating that they saw no reason to do so.
Well, it took about a week for the coupons to arrive, and my wife used them to get another jar of peanut butter to replace the first one. Then, Sunday night, I was looking for something to have for a snack and decided a couple of Ritz crackers with peanut butter would do. So, I opened the new jar, grabbed a knife and dug in. This is what I pulled out:

So, to make a long story short, I guess I should be playing the lottery with luck like that (if one thinks that is lucky) or else being very careful around sharp objects (depending on one's point of view).
I contacted Con Agra again, but all they wanted to do was offer me $20.00 to send them the foreign objects (no, not any of our posters from Sveden
). Yeah, right. How many parents around your home still send their kids off to school with PB&J for lunch? What if one of these pieces got caught in the kid's throat and choked them?
Now, I'm pretty darned sure that if I was lucky / unlucky enough to get this stuff in two jars from two different lots and in two different sized, that there's likely more of it out there.
I have contacted the local Wal Mart, and they said they won't pull the product until Con Agra contacts them. Con Agra seems to believe that I'm stupid enough to believe that I purchased the only two jars to leave their plants with foreign objects in them.
I think it's serious enough that folks should really start checking any foods coming from Con Agra. Apparently their quality control is out of control.
