went dredging today,in n.ga.had a copperhead(VERY LARGE)get a little to close.o. k. a lot to close.he was in the water came up toward shore right where we had our tools and dredges, came up toward my buddies dogs-and near my 12 yr.old.i had to kill it!normally i don't mess with them, let them be -they let me be.but this one was bold!and very large for a copperhead.the largest one i have seen in a long time.to bad i messed him up-he would have made a nice belt.most will just make a hat band-but this one would have made a beautiful belt.last weekend we only saw water snakes,no problems but you naever know.always be on the lookout.i had been standing on a large rock and doing test pans, after i walked up stream,my buddie chris saw him come out of the water on that same rock.my son told me that chris saw i snake the color of a penny when i walked down stream to see it .it was gone?chris looked around and it was going towards the dogs and equipment.then came towards him and my son and i.took him out with a large rock. he was bold if chris had not seen him you never know.so moral of the story is please don't prospect alone ,and ALWAYS BE AWARE,if one gets you you might not be able to get to help.never take nothing for granted.and esp.be careful around rocks protruding out of the water.

ya know those copperheads fry up real nice just like rattlesnake(no they dont taste like chicken, they taste kinda like rabbit)

either way they make a turd LOL

their bad this year out here in the desert I've seen 7 in the last 2 weeks

I have seen a lot lately too. I was up at a new spot this past weekend, and I almost stepped on a cottonmouth. He was sunning himself on a rock between two other rocks so I couldnt see him till I jumped on the rock, with the river raging past on both sides. I was coming downriver and crossed to those rocks and as soon as I made the jump to the rocks I saw him sitting there about 2 feet in front of me. I jumped back into the river and got the heck out of dodge, heh. Didnt see what he did but it looked like he was running the other way.

I seen about 4 more snakes here too, but they were all harmless besides the cottonmouth. Almost stepped on a big garner snake with a green stripe when I was crossing some grass. He looked like a rubber hose someone left in the grass. I got a video of walking downriver but I didnt catch any snakes on it. Though it does have the part where I jump back from almost stepping on the cottonmouth.

Here is some pictures for now, I will get the video up later.

(Edit: changed the snake name, I forgot it was a cottonmouth not a rattler)

close call propanner!

That was close! Nice vid, thanks for sharing. The snake I almost stepped on was a little farther, and he was partly behind a rock. Anyway, it seems like the more prospecting I do lately, the more snakes I find.

I have a hard time prospecting in cold weather.I'm a Fla. boy(don't hit on all 8 till about 80degrees)and have found out that all those past injuries and pre-existing conditions ache a lot more in the cold :icon_scratch: :laughing7:

Bitch, bitch, bitch. :laughing9: :laughing9: :laughing9: :laughing9: :laughing9:

You and me both. Cold is for the grizzlies.
Cool, that leaves more gold for us Washingtonians. We have hot weather in the eastern part of the state that brings rattlers out. You can have your cotton mouths and cold wet hurricanes and your sunken treasures. It's quite all right with us.

first and foremost they taste like chicken!just because its cold don't mean you can't go-just not as deep l.o.l.- :laughing7:---thats the time of year to do the highground/sniping/m-d ing/sampling/researching/scouting/and underground.beside my dredge nozzel won't reach washington. :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang:

I don't know, "If!" it'll work on other "Snakes" (specics)?
But!
Every year,
"Bugs" "is" and gets "Vaccinated", with a "Rattlesnake" Vaccine ! :icon_thumleft:
For, $20 ! It's really, a cheap protection
Just Wish that they had it for "us" two legged critters ..... ;D
