Water = ring :)

Hit the water today and netted a nice older sterling ring, 3 wheats, a 1943 S silver war nickel, a Catholic pendant, over 50 clad and some misc. The ring is a size 4 a little smaller than a dime. There are before and after pics of the cleaning of the ring and silver war nickel. I also wated to show you what the acid in the lake bottom does to older clad. It eats the copper right out from between the silver. In the pic are 3 quarters and 4 dimes.

Nice finds Mike. I went to a lake yesterday and noticed that it wasn't too kind to the wheat pennies I found. They were 1/2 the thickness of what they once were and were crusted over where I had to break away the crust just to see what I had.

Same here yesterday where I got these finds. It is a good spot, and there should be some old gold there!

30 to 40 years by the dates. Yes it does work on the pennies too. They look sand blasted and start to lose their dates.

Lake St. Clair is kind to wheats and older silver but the inland lakes seem to eat away at the coins. I'm wondering if it has anything to do with fertilizer that the homeowners use on their lawns?

Be very careful when water hunting in the Atlantic Ocean beaches. The same thing happens with the clad there. Why I say be careful? When the copper erodes away really bad, the nickel turns into circular razor blades, and can cut you very severely..........NGE
