Hello me again, im an avid detectorist but not much of a follow up type of Guy.I have boocoo's of accumulated finds over the years and am now trying to catch up with my finds so I can go on...... I was detecting my father in laws yard with a tesoro sabre back in 1993 in holmes county, ohio when I found this a short distance from the farm house( operational dairy farm). It is semi weighty, the stamp area is 1" in diameter, brown(bronze?)with a slight patina, the shaft is stubby at only 5/16"and square not round. Words say, H DISSTON at the top and PHILADA at the bottom. As far as the eagle it looks pre civil war to me. In the photos the stamp image appears off center because it is in reality not a camera illusion. Help with the name, what it might be, and a date. (age) Thanks!

Now that is true, could be and yes true it would be reverse! The eagle has olive branches dont know if thats another clue?

"The medallions on Disston handsaws changed more over time than any other feature on the saw. By using the medallion, you can estimate the age of your saw."

Here's a link to the Disston site :

I am glad I found a site that is there on the spot! Wow you people nailed it on the saw! I looked up the website mentioned and it puts the medallion in around 1840-1850.
