Weak spot in coil

I've used my Deus 2 for almost two years now. My 11"coil went bad the other day so I sent it in to be repaired or replaced. I always use a coil cover. I do a lot of hard detecting in heavy brush. There is no cover for the top of the coil. When the Deus repair tech called me he said I put a hole in the top of the coil and was not covered under warranty. To my surprise, I some how put a hole in the top of the coil. Time to get a 9'' coil!

Yes. water got into it so it's trashed.

Good to know there's a potential weak spot in that location on these coils.

Sometimes, the way things either get tossed in the back of the car or bounced around while driving, I can envision that kind of mishap occurring in other ways. It makes me glad I got the case.

I had a crack come in the top of my 11 inch . I had thought it had leaked and froze , owned less than 2 years. Same thing no new coil replacement, Thinking they got it working there going to seal it and send it back which is fine. i would not be happy if i had to spend money on another coil. So much for there 5 year long life warranty.

Well there's probably nothing wrong with the coil since it's potted, just the electronics that support the wireless tech.
They most likely did what you said, seal the coil, replace the electronics, and battery.

I'm not sure if you are saying they refused to repair it under warranty or complaining they didn't send you a new coil under warranty.
Either way, that coil saw more abuse in 2 years than my D1-11" coil in over 10 years of constant use.
If they repaired it under warranty, you should be happy.

Not sure how much abuse your coil had but my coil was not abused ! There too expensive not to take care of. I would have thought the coil ears would have broken if it had been abused. Probably had around 120 hrs of use. They don't warranty a cracked coil with a new one if they cannot fix the old one is what I was saying. They got mine working supposedly and are going to seal it and send it back if it continues to work. If not I would be looking at a second hand for around half price. If it gets fixed I will be happy if it doesn't I don't think the 5 year long life warranty does't mean anything. Just my opinion. The main reason for my purchase was for the warranty.

It started top right and when it quit working by the time I got home it had continued all the way across. Mainly hunt fields . It has some dings and scratches on it from bumping into things but nothing I would say from abuse. Maybe bad luck? Really like the Xp deus 2, I went out and bought some more for back ups. Just disappointed in my experience with the warranty if the coil turns out not fixable. Just letting people know of my experience. Still waiting for repaired coil or a email.

Weird place for a crack. No impact marks, almost looks like pressure crack.

I spoke with MOE at XP repair center and he said YES DEUS is coming out with an elliptical coil for the DEUS II, but no timeline as to when it will be available.
