Weedeater Engine dredge...??

Those engines probably don't have enough torque to move large amounts of water. Short stroke and little to no weight on the flywheel. The best thing it has going for it, is that it's a high-revving two-stroke. Likely it would just bog down and die once you got a load on it. Maybe, with the right gear reduction...
 

Don't waste your time with it.
 

If you are in gold country, you can make a nice backpack style gold vacuum (for dry stuff) with a five gallon bucket and some hose
