Still learning & still digging every single signal I hear - cause ya never know! These are some of the goodies I found this weekend at an old late 1800s, early 1900s homestead. A couple I have posted in the "What is it?" section, cause honestly have NO clue!
First I must show my "giddy" find. My first horseshoe!! YAY! I know silly, but was on my bucket list :) With it is an old salt (?) shaker top & the best piece of an old whiskey stoneware jug I could find. Sadly was a lot of them, all smashed from the walls collapsing into the basement :(

All in all was a fun weekend & can't wait to get back there! Hope you enjoy & if you have any idea what some of these mystery items are, please reply in my "what is it" posts! Thanks!

Oh! Also found an old 1920s Olive Jar. No picture at the moment, cause it is currently in the bath!

Good finds. Maybe you can find even more relics next time :)

Thanks! Hoping to make it out there this weekend to search somemore. Won't be able to get back there after the 1st - deer season opens. Was a bunch of other finds, but was all trash. These were the noteworthy finds :)

The more you swing and dig the more you will learn . Good job on the recoveries and it will only get better

Well done... keep it up.

Check that salt shaker top on the underside. A lot of the older ones were made of sterling silver, & in the picture yours looks like it could be. It will be marked "sterling" or .925. Nice finds.

WTG Goonie. I agree, it's best to dig everything when starting your MDing journey.

Sounds like you had a fun hunt! Keep it Up! HH

Those are porous carbon Cathodes from big old dry-cell batteries (used in telephones and whatnot) like this:

Were they found in/around the cellar hole/basement? From the sounds of it, the basement may have been used as a dumping area 90-100 years ago, and the jugs may have been already broken, or broken when dumped in the hole and not from the eventual collapse of the walls. There may well be some good bottles and intact jugs lurking in the area, but you'd have to be willing to dig around for them.

Edit: I agree with Trezurehunter, that shaker top looks like it may be sterling, study it carefully for markings as they aren't usually easy to see.

Thanks Plumbata! It is looking like that is what they are. Will research a bit more to be sure. At least now I have something to go off! They were found in the giant hole that was the basement buried under lots of rocks.
Will def check out that salt top when I get home! To think I almost tossed in the junk pile! Eep!!

Great weekend!

Thinking the salt shaker top is aluminum :( Looked & looked & could not find a number or anything on it anywhere. It is very light, bends very easily & scratches real easy (oopsies). Oh well, maybe next time! If I find anything good this weekend I'll be sure to post again!
Happy hunting everyone!

You may want to think about setting up a sifter. If you have that site to yourself,, why not?
Wishing you continued success at that site,, I wouldn't mind spending some time digging it out.:icon_thumright:
