Weight, Weight, Don’t Tell Me.

Short hunt near the garage where I often find goodies. Found what looks like a name plate from a balance scale. After clean-up it reads, “PAT’D JUNE 9 1896 Feather Weight”. Tried doing a search on it but found nothing that matches yet.

Any ideas?

Tuck it away in a cool looking pieces of brass display.
Kidding, but not really.
In the past I was just tossing any brass and copper pieces into my scrap bucket and then
selling it off to the scrap yard.
Now I kick myself for not keeping some of the more interesting items.

I'd have to agree with Xray..looks like a part to a very old scale. Are there
other words on the front?

If it says "Singer", then it's probably from an antique Singer Feather Weight sewing machine.

Thanks, curbdiggercarl57! Luckily I am a packrat of sorts. Only once did I ever throw out something really good before researching. I still am kicking myself to this day. If this piece had no markings on it I may have scrapped it tho.

I just realized that this object has a diagram of itself on one side of the balance scale with a feather on the other. Maybe it's a tray or part of a tray for a balance scale?

This might be it, but I couldn't find the diagram that is usually displayed. This patent was originally filed for in March of 1896. The diagram may be with the filing application.

I located the diagram, , but I can't make out the size of one piece that might be the piece you found. I have to see if I can enlarge it.
