Weird Porcelain Threaded Piece

Hello All. I found this thing in garbage pit at a 1940's era home site. I am guessing it went to a gas lamp of some kind.

The white glass is called Milk Glass. Could be from Ponds Cold Cream or something similiar.

I second that..milk glass like that is extremely common. .almost bromo seltzer common
