Possibly off of some article of clothing, serving the same purpose as the rivets on blue jeans? Just guessing.

Hmm, That is an odd little thing. Maybe a logo off a piece of luggage? Knowing what type of area it was found in may help -- playground, sports field, revolutionary war battlefield, etc.
Quick note though that it's not quite a bi-plane, but a high wing aircraft (only one set of wings showing, and we can see the wing supports, meaning no lower wing was present)? I only mention this to avoid possible wrong directions in google searches.

Nice find, tj,

It reminds me of Lucky Lindy. Might it be a lapel pin?

I also wanted to comment that is not a bi-plane.. but does look a lot like "The Spirit of St. Louis" that Charles Lindbergh flew.. or the "lucky lindy" listed above this post .. Note the Double struts that support the wing .. modern aircraft only have one strut per side.

an observation and simple guess.
The spirit of st.lewis was double strutted to compensate for its exceptional weight due to large fuel capacity. It certainlt appears it may depict that aircraft. The rivited attachment indicates possibly attached to leather.Depth of shank on rivit may confirm that.
Best guess..leather commemorative key fob or the like. Many items produced at the time as Lindburgh was perhaps most famous person in the world after flight.

cheers...nice find
