Thought I was totally done for the season, but the field where my 2 Virginia buttons were recently dug has still not been planted for some reason. The finds here have been few and far between, but I was wanting to finish this site up so I wouldn't have to worry about coming back in the fall. I ended up with a few buttons, an 1884 IH, part of an 1800s apothecary weight, and was surprised by a 3-cent nickle. At first I thought it was another IH as the obverse is quite similar, but these unusual coins are slightly smaller and have the telltale roman numeral "III" on the reverse. This is only the 2nd one of these I've dug with the other one coming just 18 months ago.

That's freaking cool! The 3 cent nickel is one of my favorites...I'd love to dig one someday.

WOW.. That's in very nice condition, if that was found in upstate NY would never look like that..

Oh man Bill, that 3 cent nickel looks to be in great shape too! Congratulations good sir

Cool coin Bill, and as I understand it, (consider where I am) they are as tough to come by as a three cent silver.

Funny your season is over, and I haven't got a real start yet....thinking I may have got scwered out of any spring season...oh well there will be the fall, and it can't be worse.

I had no idea there were copper three cent coins. Congrats on a rare find!

Great way to end the season Bill.
ZDD

Congrats on the 3-cent nickel. I have only found one in 42yrs. and it was not in as good as shape as yours is.

That sucker is in good shape too. I've found 3 shielded nickels at this site a lot of fatty Indians all 1860s. Been hoping to find some of them 3 cent pieces or two cent pieces but no luck yet them are nice

Sent from my SCH-S738C using TreasureNet in the middle of a field somewhere

Way to sneak in another hunt Bill. Way to go on that 3-cent nickel. Don't see those posted too often.
Great job,
Doug

Sweet coin Bill D. I got my second last week, that variety, 1881. My first was a 1852 silver one. Love them, hard to find. Congrats!! Keep Swinging!!

Love it!! Incredible find :)

Fantastic score, Bill. I love those coins- never dug one- was given one as a kid and it's still one of my favorites. I hope you're able to get a few more treasures before the fields are planted.

Congrats on a rare find!. . . and on the VA buttons as well. What machine do you use? If it was a ctx3030 or Etrac, I wondered what reading you got on the 3 cent nickel?

Good end to your season Bill. That 3 cent is a
Great find. Don't see many of those come up and in such great condition. Congrats.

Bill I believe you use an F75? If you do what vdi did you get on that 3 center, which is awesome by the way. I believe my T2 SE and the F75 have similar numbers. I'm in no way a # watcher but I always like to observe patterns in correlation to good digs. Happy to see you got one last unexpected hunt in my friend.

The finds may be few, but you find the good ones!

Abe - it only registered in the low 20s. Seeing how its composition is 75% copper and 25% nickel I thought it might come in higher. But it is quite small.

Very cool , That 3 Cent Nic, is in great Shape . IMO
