Well,today is finally the last day of deer season!

Now I can hang out in my favorite place to be, the woods!at least till turkey comes in, which gives me a little open window.Not so much worried about getting shot in turkey season then I am messing up someones hunting,but I think they are supposed to be out the woods by noon or something like that so it's not to bad.I see the new year is treating allot of you guys well.Keep up the good work.-HH

Recreation hunting is stupid.
Hope we never have a crunch in this country where we have to fend for ourselves by hunting for our own food.
Barely enough now for the people who depend on that food source.
Imagine if we all had to hunt to eat.
A system breakdown wouldn't be pretty.
Hunting for the hell of it or for fun is a waste.
If we were smart we would conserve this valuable resource for times of need.

I'll hunt the woods in season in some places,but where i have been wanting to get, the hunting club leases the land so there always a hot chance of running into someone.

I use to do allot of game hunting,I found it to be exciting at times,but compared to relic hunting I found it to be quite boring.I will still go out every once in awhile on a rainy day.I see where you are coming from but really if people don't hunt deer they can over populate.Destroying farmers crops,more car accidents involving deer,and can even come to a point of disease and starvation of the deer.I do like a freezer full of meat.What gets me is the yahoos that ride around and just shoot them to shoot them.

What I say is minimal compared to victims of major "natural disasters", but 5 September's ago, a major wind storm blew through here. The 75mph sustained winds were remnants of a Gulf hurricane ��. Power was knocked out for 3 full days. Luckily, due to a friend living within a hospital grid, I was able to charge my phone. ( I didn't have a small generator). Seemed like a mini Armageddon at the time.
It was an eye opening experience.
I'm not a "prepper" in any way, but after such a small incident, I now fully realize the implications of future events.

Personally I think that is a load of crap... the overpopulation has never been a "widespread problem"... nor would it ever naturally become one.
To prove this...
In the written first hand accounts of this lands first beginnings...
never mention a problem or "investation" or "overpopulation" of anything.
Nature has a way of balancing itself out with these things.
It has always been man who "tips the scales" of these things.

The only part I agree with hunting is... it is your right to do so as a human...
And is the "way of life"... all life.
But what I am really going after with the "stupidity" statement is...
Shooting just to say you shot it.
that is the stupid part.
Trophy shooting.
That is why there IS a "deer season" to begin with.
Shooting to eat only when needed would keep population well at bay.

Deer used to have predators to keep the population down even without the tribes of natives. Conservation is part of the fish and game dept. in Va you can shoot an elk if you see one without a special permit, if I don't tell you why will you educate yourself?

obviously you have never seen deer dying of the various diseases caused by over population of especially deer. my son-n-law is a game and fish biologist and seeing deer die of blue tongue, black leg and other devastating slow deaths is not a pretty sight. Venison is a mainstay for a lot of people, no steroids etc. we are the caretakers of this resource and yes, there are a lot of jerks out there who abuse this like everything else.

I don't know ARRC,they multiply quite rapidly,and they don't have allot places to roam due to allot of human population in some places.Some winters the woods aren't always filled with acorns ,hickory nuts and stuff for example.

Whenever I KILL a deer is most certainly is NOT a waste. I clean, butcher, package and store. Not a bit goes to waste. And you say " Imagine if we all had to hunt to eat." Hell I could live off the land. Rabbits, squirrels, turkey, deer and anything in between. I surely hope your not for gun control... I'm gonna eat anything I pull the trigger on.

And you mention... "Barely enough now for the people who depend on that food source." What food source? Wildlife...? You need to get out in the woods maybe talk to insurance companies and learn to kill, clean and cook wildlife. Who in the hell depends on it Do you live in a concrete jungle or every killed wildlife. There's more wildlife meat walking around here then I could EVER eat.
