Went back to my local ghost town today.

Went back to my mid to late 1800's ghost town today. I tried to detect but the ground was frozen to about 5 or 6 inches down. In the past I would of stowed my gear by this time. Anyway it was frustrating not being able to dig much. The 03 Indian was one of the deeper targets at 2". More clay pipe shards. Found a button with something on it, and what I believe to be some type of oil lamp or candle stick part. At first I thought it was a trigger guard.

Forgot the Indian pic. You can see how the ground is frozen. I got lucky because the chunk broke free were the coin was.

I was using the Whites DFX in relic mode. Seems to work well in older sties that have very minimal modern trash. I like relic mode because I can hear and see every target. I think its basically zero discrimination. Coin mode seems to discriminate out those iffy week signals,, when relic mode doesn't. My Garrett 2500 needs to be repaired hasn't been working right. Great machine I have made lots of great finds with that one! My machine is getting tired, I have been using it for over 5 years and must be pushing 1,000 hours of use. Anythings going to have trouble after time. I just hope I can get it fixed.

With pictures like that it makes me feel really fortunate that we have at least another month before it really gets cold here. I hope to find 4 more silver this year.
