I was on a buddies property today, he owns a large plot in the only mountainy area around here. I came upon this, it's definately man made. there has never been any farmland here so that rules out a spring. anyway. there are two entrances one on either side of the ridge, they are about 35 yards apart directly accross from each other and it is down about 15 feet in the ground at the deepest point. one opening is 6"x12" and has a large flat rock that is square shaped laying next to the hole, the other entrance is about 2'x 1 1/2'. it is all stone lined, all creek rock, the creek is about 300 or so yards behind this. I also got two shots of the inside of the tunnel, not good but good enough, it is pitch black in there. i'm glad I finally bought a digital camera. what do you guys think it is? I was thinking something along the lines of a civil or revolutionary war bunker or stash site, your opinions are helpful.

Hmmmm....hard to tell, but it's a very interesting site. If you dug a test pit at one of the entrances you could probably make some deductions concerning size and, possibly, purpose of the tunnel/cave. Thanks for sharing and the pics!

Wow what a site. Even if you find it was part of a well system keep your eyes open it might have been used by kids in the past. Watch out for those black and white kitty's or you may smell bad. ;D :D Good luck finding something good.

SCAVENGER, Looks Like A Great Site, Best of Luck & Good Hunting. Please Keep Us Posted. trk5capt...

Great site. Yep, definately have to break out the shovel. Make sure to run your detector over the area first and then over every bit of dirt you move. Can wait to see what you find out.

I have found several similar sites around the limestone bluffs here and on my hunting lease. It is usually just a natural flaw in the limestone. Watch it at dusk and see if bats fly out. If so, there is probably a much larger cavern inside. There have been a few similar sites that was old outlaw stash sites, just to whet your appetite! I'd certainly check it out. Monty

Oooo Oooo.... I can't wait for an update!

It'd be a good job for a Borescope!

Could this not be a tunnel to drain water away from the area....... Whatever it is you must get in there and inform us all ;D

God bless
Peter

scavenger, Maybe you will tell us in what state was this found in? There's a good chance your on to something. 105 foot between the holes. maybe a large room in between. Whom ever used it last likely left something behind that will tell you more. One could feel safe and out of sight in there. BANDITS?
Torys, ect?
If you find someone held up there. Might be a good idea to M/D out a ways from there all around. Dont do a rush job. Explore area good. Have fun.
