Yes, it's true, my very first gun show. It was very interesting looking at some of the antique guns and military weaponry although the main reason I went was to beef up my ammo collection. :) Can't get the calibers I want right now from my regular sources like Walmart so I thought I could find some there. Guess what they were asking for 550-round boxes of 22 caliber long rifle bullets? $75-$85 a box!! Are you kidding me? I still have thousands of rounds so I didn't get any more at those prices. I'll wait 'til the gun topic settles down a bit and then look around some more. For those not familiar with the usual price of the same box of bullets, I was buying them at Walmart 10 months ago at about $20 box.

I hear ya . Did you also notice the price of the semi auto firearms ? They're going for 50 - 75% more than thier MSR prices . Nonsemi seemed about average given the condition of the economy .

I just found a reliable re-load source for 9mm for $.20 @. I bought 500 rds for $100! Best value around. Also, our local Gander Mountain store just received a shipment of 9mm; .40 and .45 ball ammo. 9mm= 250 rds of .45 at: $99.99

My sons and I have been reloading a LOT of our own stuff lately and I think we will be doing a lot more of it before they start charging an arm and a leg for the bullets, brass, primers and powder. Getting crazy out there.

Thank goodness I only go to GunShows to see what Smith and Wesson Antique's are available. I actually picked up a S&W Safety Hammerless 2nd Model last month for a great price. Otherwise, I try to keep all my firearm purchases local (even if it means spending a little more).

There was a lot of stuff to look at for sure and some really old firearms along with some civil war canon displays, a Huey from Nam, Jeep from Korea, uniforms from WWl and WWll.....lots more than just guns. Worth the $6 to get in.
What does the VP stand for in front of Navy....a squadron?

V stands for Fixed Wing (heavier-than-air) and P stands for Patrol. Consequently, Navy Patrol Squadrons (flying Fixed Wing aircraft) are identified as VP-5 (Patrol Squadron FIVE), VP-30 (Patrol Squadron THIRTY), etc.

Below you will see a Fixed Wing aircraft as opposed aircraft with folding wings for Aircraft Carrier operations. The picture on the left is a P-3 Lockheed Orion (Fixed Wing) and the one on the right is a E2C Hawkeye (folding wings).

You can learn all about VP community by jumping over to my site (U. S. Patrol Squadrons).

Gun shows have lots of interesting stuff, but around here I find their prices way to high for most everything. But talking about gun and ammo prices, I remember when WWII ended my dad bought a WWI era Springfield 30-06 for $18.50, which he had sporterized and ruined any collector value. So years later I want an original military Springfield, and had to pay $180 for it. I remember this because at the time a silver dollar would sell for $10 so the price of the rifle really hadn't gone up, that is if you had the 18 silver dollars to buy it. Now we come to today. I drove up to Springfield the other day and visited the Cabalea's store. They had an original Springfield 30-06, still all military, and they wanted $1900 for the rifle. OMG Without looking up the price of silver, I'm thinking we are looking at over 60 silver dollars. When I think about it, I have to wonder who in the world is going to buy that rifle at that price. They have left me in the dust.

I like gun shows cause I really like to meet people. There's lots of characters, including me. :laughing7:

Lots of neat stuff, but you really have to hunt for a deal.

Bosn, I was at a gun store two days ago. They had two "original" Springfields for sale. I think they were around $600 each. My son has one but it is sporterized. He has shot quite a few wild hogs with it. He dropped a running, 350lb boar at about 100 yards with one shot. Nice rifles.
